Generally, Mercury is responsible for meeting our communication; travel needs and is also in control of our siblings and neighbors. On a deeper level, Mercury represents our perception of the world around us−our intelligence. How we listen, observe, speak and ultimately retain information.

Mercury will be in retrograde March 12th- April 4th, in the fiery and direct sign of Aries. Although, Mercury only goes retrograde three or four times a year, when he does there’s usually trouble with speech, listening, travel delays; siblings, issues with buying and selling, negotiations, mail and technology.  For those of you who aren’t familiar with the term retrograde, it simply means the planet is moving slower than those around it giving the impression that the planet is moving backwards. Confused…? Let me put it in better perceptive, a planet in a retrograde position gives us an opportunity to examine the characteristics of that planet in-ternally.

Mercury in Aries is direct and to the point. You may find that your communications with others may be abrupt. Mainly, because Mercury in Aries tells you EXACTLY how he feels.  What I usually see manifest under this influence is people speaking before they think. Which means if not balanced you may be eating crow or revisiting that situation.

On the upside, retrograde periods give you an opportunity to revisit and reorganize. Self- reflection is greatly encouraged while Mercury is in retrograde. Old projects and plans may also get the boost they need during this time.

Tips for Working with Mercury Retrograde

Personally, Mercury is retrograde in my natal birth chart, so working with Mercury during his retrograde period actually works for me.  My thoughts are clearer and I’m able to communicate more effectively. However, for a large majority of the world this may not be the case. If your astrological sign is Gemini or you have a strong Mercury in your chart this influence may affect you directly. Physically, Mercury rules the nervous system, the two halves of the brain and those parts of our body that function involuntarily (lungs, kidneys, etc). Since, Mercury is reflective, he usually talks to himself, especially since his words aren’t articulating. Nervousness and anxiety may be an issue, resulting in trouble breathing. Remember, Mercury retrograde rambles and in most cases forgets to breathe. For my clients who have Gemini in their house of health, I usually recommend yoga, meditation and breath work. Here are more  tips for working with Mercury in retrograde:

Watch what you say: People tend ramble, jumble their words and  say things they don’t mean while Mercury is in retrograde. It’s important to know most communications are revisited under a retrograde period, so think things through before you allow them to come out of your mouth.

Take Extra Time when Traveling: As I’ve expressed earlier, Mercury rules transportation, therefore there are usually more accidents, travel delays and  issues getting there on time. Be patient. Plan ahead so that you can make the best out of your day.

Don’t sign Any Agreements:  Remember, Mercury is a trickster who leaves out the details, so you must be VERY careful when signing agreements. You may not see the fine print, which may get you in lots of trouble in the future.

Back up your computer:  Computers are known to crash while Mercury is in retrograde, so back them up! Also, if writing is a part of your job or hobby saving your document while writing may be a good idea.

Be Careful:  As mentioned before, Mercury rules traveling on foot, car, planes etc. Be sure to watch your step. Tripping, bumping your legs, arms or dropping things is prominent during this period.

Clear your Mind:  It’s easy to feel overwhelmed during retrograde periods. Taking time to reflect and self assess may be the key to unlocking your confusion. Meditation is a wonderful tool that gives you the opportunity to sit with your inner self and seek your peace.  There are also crystals such as, Amethyst and Soladite that may be helpful with meditation and mindfulness.

There are many ways to make Mercury work for you during his retrograde. Be patient and mindful and I promise you’ll be fine!

If your anything like me you’re more comfortable in your space. Being HOME supplies a level of comfort no other place can. It’s the one place you feel safe from the outside world. BUT how energetically sound is your home?  Some are of the belief peace is a comfort that only applies to you internally–I beg to differ.  I’ve found, if there is chaos in your living environment, it absolutely will impact you negatively.  Keep in mind, we exchange energy constantly. In some cases, there are those who literally suck the life force out of you.  Furthermore, the transference doesn’t stop once you physically separate…it follows you home.

I am extremely sensitive to others people’s energy. Usually, I’m impacted positively. However, there are other times I become nauseated and light-headed.  Since, I’ve fully accepted working with others, I’ve had to take precautions to protect myself and the ones I love.   With Neptune returning home to Pisces, several of my students and clients have been noticing an increase in environmental emotion. It was to be expected but how do you balance it?  Let’s take a look…

  • Sage: is an awesome tool that assists in reducing and eliminating unwanted energy in the home. It’s scent can be overbearing, therefore opening a window is strongly advised. The trick to using sage is affirming what you want. Yes, burning it will clear whatever is there out but you must know why you’re using it. I reserve sage for the pesky energy that doesn’t want to leave. As I burn it, I chant or speak to the energy. I make sure to get all corners and behind doors (energy hides sometimes). The only caution I have is sage removes everything. Including the good stuff.
  •  Stones: there are several stones that are great for protection. Stones like, Black ObsidianAmethyst, Onxy, Smoky Quartz or Black Tourmaline not only protect against psychic attack they also protect you from the environment. Stones can be worn or placed in the home. In the home and office they protect from radiation. We are a technology driven society.  Think of all the gadgets you have in your home, purse or car. Technology is everywhere.  These devices emit electromagnetic smog that can be harmful the your bodies.  It’s important to balance your exposure. In my experience Aragonite is a very powerful stone.
  •  Meditation: is essential to creating a wholistic body.  Consistently giving your body permission to restore  adds years to your life.  You’ll also raise your frequency, thus strengthening your body’s natural defense mechanisms. You’ll notice less colds, emotional outburst and more physical stamina. A common misconception is one needs to take to meditating like a Tibetan monk. This is not so. The best advise I have is meet your body where it is. There are several guided meditations there are simple, clear and just as powerful. The most important tool is to breathe. If you can’t quite your mind, give it some thing to do–count your breaths.
  • Washes: I mentioned above that sage, although thorough dismisses everything. An alternative to sage is a protective wash. You can use many herbs to create a very effective wash. Personally, I enjoy using basil. It smells good. It’s readily available and it something that you can cook with.  Cinnamon, clover and rosemary are wonderful options too. Washes are easy to make. All you need is a pot (something clay or ceramic if possible), water, and the herb of your choice. Either boiling or seeping works. Floor Washes can be executed the same manor. I’ve found saying a simple but effective prayer, affirmation or playing relaxing music helps increase your responsiveness.
  • Exercise: helps your body release toxins and adds vitality. Committing to a daily work out regimen will not only assist you in shedding the pounds but will also boost  your immune system. The method isn’t important all that matters is you do it!
  • Affirming: may sound silly to some. The idea that one “tricks” themselves into believing I guess would make me chuckle too. The fact of the matter is…It works! Having faith can heal the sick, make the poor wealthy and assist  into climbing the highest mountain. Claiming your expressions brings about powerful conclusions. After an long day, quietly affirming “nothing comes with me” before I enter my home makes me feel mighty. It gives me a chance to leave my worries and adversities behind and reclaim my personal power. Try it and tell me what you think.
  • Baths: This is my FAVOURITE part of this article–the baths. Just the thought of it makes me want take a break. As you can see I love baths! Theres nothing better than taking a nice hot bath after a long day. It certainly has its benefits: relaxing, connects you with your water center (important for womb-man) and detoxifies. Sea Salt baths raises your pH, detoxifies your skin and raises your vibration. I recommend taking a salt bath weekly.

In closing, I must stress NOTHING can hurt you. We all have the ability to live above our current reality. You can live in the world without being of it. Take the steps towards regularly Loving Yourself. Apply one of the above techniques the next time you feel out of sorts. Give it chance. What do you have to lose?

When I’m having a hard time detaching from someone or an ideal I find it helpful to express it. Not always do I want to share my deepest darkest insecurities, so I write about it. You’ll be amazed by how something so simple can be so effective. Plus, it doesn’t take much time and only requires a pen and a couple of sheets of paper. Here are the instructions:

Find a quite place where you won’t be disturbed. Give yourself a few moments to process what you’re feeling. When you’re ready to begin, use the first piece of paper to express all of your fears, anger, and pain. Remember, this is your time to share exactly how you feel. Don’t think just feel and write. When you’re done, don’t revisit the pain; give yourself permission to get rid of it. Whether, fire, tearing it to shreds or crumpling it up; dispose of it. Now, on the second piece of paper, write the things you desire (in present tense). Once you’ve created your masterpiece fold it 7 (7 being a spiritual number) times and carry it with you for 7 days. I’ve done this several times and each time I manifest something on my list.

Stone of the Week: EMERALD is a stone of patience and inspiration. It’s also known as the stone of successful love. The Emerald brings domestic harmony, bliss and enhances unity. In partnerships it promotes unconditional love and friends as well as balance. It eliminated negativity and brings in positive actions, raising consciousness. A stone of regeneration and recovery. The Emerald gives the strength to overcome obstacles and heal negative emotions. On a spiritual level, the Emerald enhances clarity, memory, inspires inner knowledge and promotes discernment and truth. Emeralds are beneficial in groups enhancing understanding and mutual cooperation. On a physical level, Emerald aids recovery after illness. Treats the sinuses, lungs, spine and muscles. Emerald also works with the eyes, improving vision. Emerald alleviated rheumatism and diabetes and is a powerful antidote for poisons. Wear Emerald as a ring on your little or ring finger or right arm or over your heart as it works well with the heart chakra, Emerald shouldn’t be worn everyday as it may trigger negative emotions.

While most were decking the halls, reminiscing and kissing under the mistletoe; the Universe was delivering a gift of its own- Jupiter going direct. Sometimes called the Santa Claus in astrology, Jupiter has been retrograde in stable Taurus since August 2011. Healing was also a huge deal under this influence because Jupiter in Taurus wants us to refine our inner beauty. Many decided to go back to school or complete a course of study they abandoned once upon a time. Others, spent there time taking up more humanitarian causes. Either way, we were asked to dig deep into our selves and unlock our spiritual potential, re-examine old/ new philosophies, connect with friends and give back.

What’s next?

Now that Jupiter is direct we are able to move forward with what we’ve been building. Jupiter in Earth wants us to build, build, build. What’s interesting about Jupiter going direct is, he’s in Taurus and surrounded by mostly Earth signs (Mars in Virgo, Sun, Pluto and Moon in Capricorn), which means the emphasis is on tangible results, foundation and the “bottom-line”. If you have Earth in your chart between 0 – 2 degrees you will notice a shift in those houses. Also, pay attention to your Taurus house to determine where the story is unfolding. The new moon in Capricorn (December 24th) further solidifies our boost from the Universe offering opportunities to set “real” goals, think big and create something powerful for the New Year.

Taming the Bull

Personal power/healing is also relevant during this time. Jupiter sextiles Chiron offering a chance to work through our inner wound. Since, Mercury is direct from his retrograde period (Nov 24 – Dec 13th) writing or expressing in anyway may help you tremendously. Watch for over indulgence. Jupiter likes to feel good but he’s in comfort loving Taurus, so watch what you eat (especially cake). Increasing your water intake, veggies like asparagus, cauliflower, raw nuts; spinach and staying active will be very beneficial during Jupiter’s stay in Taurus. Healing modalities such as Reiki, Reflexology and Chakra work will help you stay balanced and light.


The healing stone I recommend during this period is:

Blue Apatite: Blue Apatite acts as a hunger suppressant. Wearing Blue Apatite will help eliminate blockages in your energy field and return the body back to balance. It also aids in the manifestation of ideas and helps create tangible results. Blue Apatite also is great for bringing about clarity and helps with expanding your insights. A wonderful stone for self-expression, Blue Apatite is great for teachers of all sorts.

Affirmation: In a smooth and healthy way, I release all unresolved emotions. I claim my personal power.

In summary: Your job between now and July 2012 is to DREAM BIG!! You have the power to create what you want in your life and you’re being shown that now. Planning is essential to planting seeds. Continue to water your ideas and be kind to yourself and watch what you’ve planted grow!

I found this great video teaching how to make your own homemade mouthwash courtesy of  www.christianhomemaking.com.  All of the ingredients are organic eliminating the toxic fluoride that is added in both toothpaste and mouthwash. You should be able to find these herbs at your local farmer’s market for less than 5 bucks.  The ingredients are as follows:

  • Mint leaves/ fresh or dried
  • Anise seed/ spice
  • Rosemary fresh/ dried
  • cinnamon stick
  • 1 drop of tea tree oil
  • 1/8 cup of witch hazel

The Process of Living Holistic

Living whol-istically is a process that offers over-all balance in all areas of your life , physically, spirituality and emotional/ mental.  The objective of living holistic is to create a healthier, happier and more fulfilling lifestyle. Holistic living applies to our relationships, career and financial stability.  Living holistic is something that we constantly strive to maintain, it works in accordance with the natural flow of life.  Most of us live our lives with the ideal that everything will stay the same, never considering our life is constantly changing. The life we’ve envisioned mostly consists of what we’re told we should be by mainstream media, our parents or educators. Take a moment and reflect on your life’s goals, how many of them are yours? Are you living YOUR life’s dream or someone else’s?  More importantly, are you happy?  Feelings of anxiety, fear and confusion are solid signs that we aren’t comfortable in our current life situation. An imbalanced self can manifest as dis-ease in our body making it difficult for us to live in a place of wholeness.

Let’s look at the definition of wholeness as provided by Answers.com: “An undivided or unbroken completeness or totality with nothing wanting”. Is your body is a state of completeness?  If not, are you paying attention to what your body is saying to you?

Living with Stress

Stress is something that exists in-ternally NOT externally. Stress is our inability to let go of past experiences and live in the now. Most of us blame society for our inadequacies when in reality we are in charge of our lives.  Every situation we encounter is a representation of what is going on within us. The people in our lives are also a direct reflection who we are.

It’s unfortunate that most have become so complacent with the presence of stress in their lives that they’ve created an addiction to it. Addictions not only apply to drugs but also belief systems, behaviors, dependencies and our attachments to pain, fear and other victim state of minds. Stress is not a natural phenomenon in our body. Actually, stress is the very emotion that causes dis-ease. Diabetes, strokes, cancer, heart dis-ease and mental illness are ALL stress induced. It’s our body’s way of trying to kill off what is creating the imbalance.

So, the next time someone is “stressing you out” take a good look at yourself. The solution does not exist in nerve pills or comfort food but it does in-ternally. Take the time to free your mind. Stop distracting yourself with gossip, drugs and addictions that provide a temporary solace.  Do the work to live blissful and stress free.

Breaking Free and Living Whole

Making a conscious decision to live holistic is something you can do now. Pay attention to what your body is trying to tell you. If losing weight is something needed to lower your blood pressure or fight diabetes work toward it. It has taken your whole life to get where you currently are, don’t get discouraged… be patient.  Remember, living whole is a process that takes self-love and persistence.

Being self-aware is large part of living balanced. Most will imply that you have to stop eating sugar, meat and/or dyes to adopt a more alkaline, organic diet, however, I believe everything requires moderation. The act of moderating your stress level, food intake and exercise will bring about the beginning of beautiful relationship with yourself. Take the time to selfishly love yourself in to balance. After all, if you don’t love who you are… who will?

We’ve all experience the ups and downs of life—some more than others. Hopefully, at some point, we get tired of trying to make sense of it all and seek alternative measures. The reality of rising cost of healthcare, has forced us to take responsibility for our wellness. What hinders us is our conventional way of thinking—we don’t understand the power we possess internally.  Instead of reaching inward for absolution we put our trust in external forces.  Some of us use drugs, sex, mental withdrawal and other forms of escapism to put a Band-Aid over the bullet wound.  Allowing low innergies like: stress, depression, envy, fear and lack of confidence to rule our daily existence.  Participating in the building of low innergies does nothing but lead you to an inevitable suicide. How do you feel daily? Is it hard for you to get up in the morning?  Are you weak and irritated?  Have you gained weight and can’t seem to get rid of it?  Before you run to the local drug store looking for answers, turn inward to search for the solution. What is going on in your life? Most importantly, are you creating it?

Our bodies are more intelligent than we think. When we are off balance our bodies tell us what to do. The problem is most if us ignore ourselves. Mostly, out of lack of education. Plain and simple—we don’t know how our bodies work. Pay attention to your discomfort. Ask yourself questions like: When am I affected the most? What is going on in my environment? When did I start having symptoms?  Our body is like a sponge–it absorbs everything. That’s why it is necessary to clear your body from toxins and other unhealthy materials.  There are many healing therapies that can aid in the restoration of you health. Healing methods like Energy work (Reiki, Chi-Qi-Ki, Chakra Balancing), Bodywork (Reflexology, acupuncture), Herbal Healing (Ayurveda) and tons of others. The following are other methods you can use to began you holistic journey:

Food

The foods that you eat also play a big part in your health. Foods high in sugars and carbohydrates can produce low innergies in your body. Meats high in fat or toxins can make you feel sluggish and heavy. The utensils you use to prepare your food may also be a factor. Pots and pans made with lead based materials fuse with your food contaminating striping your food of its nutrients.  Implementing small changes like using clay, glass or cast iron pots can make a tremendous difference in your energy.

Exercise

Daily exercise is also essential. Exercises like Tai Chi and Yoga give your body the balance and vitality to operate at the maximum of your abilities. When your body is full of toxins, stress, and unhealthy amounts of fat you are creating pathway to discomfort, self-esteem issues and obesity. Thus, increasing your chances of manifesting dis-ease in your body. Exercise gives your body the strength it need to help fight off impurities.

Natural Cleansing

Masking your body’s natural cleansing mechanisms based on convenience will only hurt you in the long run.  Little nuances as runny noses and sore throats are your bodies’ way of cleansing. When you take medications to stop the symptoms you’re prohibiting your body from excretion of harmful toxins. Rely on natural remedies such as ginger, garlic and herbal teas to provide comfort.
