Hi! Thanks for visiting my blog. My name is Christina, and I live in New Orleans, Louisiana, with my husband and our 2 children. We moved to New Orleans from Birmingham, Alabama, in June 2013 and it feels a little more like home every day. I work full time as part of the administrative staff for a reputable recruiting firm here in New Orleans.

I am a binge-eater. I came to this realization shortly after Easter 2014; I went to the store on my lunch break to check out the discounted Easter candy, and came back to work with a bag full of Reese’s Peanut Butter Eggs and all types of Cadbury Creme Eggs. When I got back to work, I sat in my car in the parking lot and proceeded to eat all of it. Every. Last. Egg. I had intended on only eating 1 or 2 pieces, but I could not make myself stop.
As I sat in my car wondering what the hell just happened (did I even taste any of it?) and berating myself for being such a fat pig, I realized that I seriously needed to do something to get my weight in check. I immediately joined Weight Watchers and searched online for weight loss blogs of people who had a lot to lose. I stumbled on to two blogs which completely changed my life–Can You Stay For Dinner? and Runs For Cookies. It was these two blogs that helped me come to the whopping realization that I wasn’t alone, and that Binge Eating Disorder (BED) was a real thing–not just something fat people made up to give themselves an excuse to eat more.
I started meeting with a therapist (Mary) who specializes in BED as well as a nutritionist (Corey). Together, those two women seriously changed my life (or helped me change my own life, as they would tell me). After 10 months of therapy, I learned how to cope with my past and deal with my present in healthy ways; I learned how to eat well-rounded meals and how to enjoy a slice of cake without eating 2 more after it. More importantly, perhaps the most important, I learned that I am more than the number on the scale.
I look forward to my Saturday Weight Watchers meetings, and haven’t missed a meeting yet.
Through this blog, I want to chronicle my own journey and struggles, and also help others realize that they’re not alone. While the world is finally starting to make strides in breaking down the stigma attached to binge eating and obesity, it still has a long way to go. We’ve all heard the phrase “love yourself skinny” or “love yourself thin”… well, I want to help you love yourself healthy.
*Full disclosure: I had lap-band surgery in October 2010. However, at this point in my life I no longer utilize the band and for all intents and purposes, it does not exist. I’d love to get it removed, but it doesn’t give me any problems and, quite frankly, it’s not in my budget right now to pay out of pocket for the removal.
